In perfect line with the high-quality accommodation offer, guests in Hochsölden will benefit from a state-of-the-art feeder mountain lift straight to the ski area from the 2019/2020 winter season onwards. Bergbahnen Sölden are planning a 10-seater gondola lift which replaces the current double chairlift.
Hochsölden's tourism providers, offering 619 beds, achieved 69,000 overnight stays in the 2017/18 winter season. The direct connection to the ski area has always been an attractive added value for holiday makers in Hochsölden. In the future, it will be even more comfortable as the existing double chairlift - dating back to 1986 - is replaced by a top modern mountain gondola produced by the market leader Doppelmayr. It will feature 23 gondola cabins and has an hourly capacity of 1330 persons. Passengers will reach the Giggijoch ski area from the base station in less than six minutes. The existing 1.2 km long line will remain almost unaltered.
Direct connection
"For all tourists staying in Hochsölden, the current connection is no longer up-to-date. The project will make it possible that also non-skiers reach Giggijoch directly in the future. Especially for children and beginners, the gondola lift promises convenient and safe transport to the beginners' area," states Helmut Kuprian, Technical Director of Bergbahnen Sölden. The total investment amounts to 10 million Euros. A quite important aspect is the quick accessibility, regardless of snow conditions and skiing skills of winter sports fans. "Especially in autumn and spring Hochsölden is not always connected via ski slopes. Thanks to the new mountain gondola the hotel village moves even closer to the ski area," Kuprian explains. Further advantages include a slow entry and exit speed, protection against wind and weather and barrier-free access and exit areas. The location of the building will change only at the top station. While the base and middle stations at the height of "Eugen's Obstlerhütte" and "Sonnblick" remain the same, the top station will be next to the Giggijoch restaurants in the future. For cost reasons, passengers can only enter or exit the gondola cabins on their way uphill at the middle station.
5 months of construction time
The schedule for the realization of the project is tight. At the end of the winter season, the old chair lift will be removed. The opening of the new mountain gondola is already scheduled for early December 2019. In addition, the slope at the base station will be broadened in order to extend the currently narrow passage.
